INEC: 42,211 Applications Received On Online CVR Portal In 24 Hours

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it received over 40,000 applications within 24 hours on the online portal for the continuous voter registration (CVR) exercise.

The commission had, on Monday, launched an online portal where Nigerians can register or request to update their voter information, before they complete the process physically at designated centres across the country.

Festus Okoye, INEC national commissioner and chairman, information and voter education committee, in a statement on Tuesday, said 59,331 accounts have been created on the portal, out of which 42,211 were applications.

Out of the total number of applications, over 27,000 new voters were captured; 11,177 applicants requested voter review records; 1,669 applied for voter transfer; 853 applied for information update, and 335 applied for replacement of permanent voter cards (PVCs).

“The CVR online pre-registration portal was launched at 7 am on Monday 28th June 2021. By 7 am, 29th June 2021, 24 hours after the launch, 59,331 accounts were created,” the statement reads.

“Within the same period, 42,211 applications were received out of which 27,759 individuals applied for new voter pre-registration services; 11,177 requested for voter review record; 1,669 applied for voter transfer; 853 asked for information update; 335 applied for replacement of lost or damaged PVCs; while 418 applicants requested for uncollected PVCs.

“These statistics have been uploaded to the Commission’s website and social media platforms. The Commission will provide Nigerians with weekly updates on the activities on the portal and the online registration status.”

Okoye also explained that physical voter registration will commence on July 19 at INEC state and local government offices across the country, adding that the process is scheduled to last for about one year.

“Scheduled appointments for online registrants will also begin on 19th July, 2021, while the commencement date for physical CVR in all the 2,673 registration centres nationwide will be determined based on the evaluation of the security situation in the country,” he said.

“We encourage those that can register online to do so, while all other Nigerians will commence their registration on the 19th July 2021.”
