The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has direct Registrars to issue at least 48 hours notice to parties where the court will not be sitting at an agreed date.
In a Notice signed by the Chief Registrar, Alh. Muh’d Abubakar Adamu sighted by TheNigeriaLawyer, the Court said notices may be issued via text messages or email.
“This directive is hereby issued on the authority of the Hon. Chief Judge of the FCT, Hon. Justice S. Garba that subsequently, a prior notice of at least 48 hours must be given to all parties in a suit where the court is indisposed or will not sit on a date earlier on agreed or communicated to parties. This Notice could be via text message (SMS) or Email. ‘Parties’ includes the Prison Officer in charge of Courts, please” the Notice reads in part
Adamu stated that exemption could be made in cases of emergency or unforeseen events.
“This Notice takes immediate effect and Registrars of all High Courts and Magistrates Courts should take note and ensure strict compliance with the directive.” Adamu further stated.
